At your first visit, a physical therapist will perform an evaluation, discuss the findings and treatment plan. The therapist then creates a physical therapy program based on the results of your evaluation and physician recommendations. The therapist takes into account your expectations and goals, your age and physical abilities.
If you are in pain at your first visit, you should expect the physical therapist to provide a treatment that gives you immediate pain relief. To achieve this, your therapist may provide electrical stimulation, ultrasound, hands-on techniques such as soft tissue mobilization, and cold packs. The therapist may also provide you with instructions in proper positioning to control your pain symptoms.
Therapeutic exercise is almost always an important part of the recovery process. You will usually exercise in our treatment area and we may give you 2-3 exercises to do at home.
